BIOGRAPHY:
YKSI started originally in "the crown of mother earth", Vesilahti, Summer 2006. That was basically just one time recording session, and the result of that was released digitally by Om Ha Sva Ha Ksha Ma La Va Ra Yam in 2010. The album name was Taivaallinen Kiertokulku (literally "the celestial cycle" but can also mean "celestial feedback access" - so a little word play with that). This session was played at the veranda of a cabin, in a sunny warm day.
2021 was the so-called re-activation time for this project (or comeback). The first album was released on CDR by Magma Tones. Edition of 16 copies only. The "comeback" album Yksi Kaikessa, Kaikkeus Yhdessä was released on cassette, also by Magma Tones. The edition of this was already 30 copies!
Little after that, another album called Liberté! Liberté! was released. First only digitally but a bit later also on CDR - and again by Magma Tones. The CDR edition was only 15 copies. The source material of this album was recorded from the protests in Paris, France - from the time when their government (among others) were pushing the Covid-vaccination (=experimental mRNA gene therapy) and the health passport to the citizens. The album wasn´t seen well by many, because of its controversial theme - but some seemed to like the sound of it anyway. For some people this subject and theme were definetely too much, and some even sent disappointed messages saying that they don´t feel to follow the label/project any longer. Some didn´t say, but stopped following anyway.
Little after the Liberte-album, Finnish label Satatuhatta released YKSI´s next album Kosminen Itse on cassette. The edition was 60 copies. It sold relatively fast, which was a nice surprise. Two side long tracks of cosmic harsh noise, made with electronic sound system.
One year later, 2022, Satatuhatta released another cassette, that one was called White Magic, and edition of 70 copies. The original idea was to release it under name White Magic Matters, but the idea was withdrawn before the actual release (with the advice of the label). The original working title for one of the tracks was "Maria Nordin of the Finnish Transcendental Harsh Noise" - but again the label´s advice was strong enough to change that one. White Magic sold even faster than Kosminen Itse, only in 1 week all tapes were gone from the label! On this album there was also electric guitar included
in April 2023 YKSI´s track Decoded Mind Control was released on Freak Animal Records compilation Terässinfonia 6, which is a part of the serie about Finnish Noise. The track was recorded and mixed in Febuary 2023.
1st August 2023, the sixth Yksi album Cultural Slavery was released by Portuguese label Narcolepsia. The material for this was recorded already in September 2022. The description of the album on the label's website was short but dynamic: "Raw psychedelic whirlwind stretched unto unconsciousness.". Edition of 70 copies.
27th August another new Yksi album Electronic Introspection came out, but only digitally. Free streaming is available in Youtube (with info text, including a link to download codes). This album was created with a very different method comparing to all other so far released Yksi material. Instead of using the multilayer noise blast collage technique, this album material was produced from a simple synth sequence, driven with a high volume to cassette player, and then back again with high volume to computer (shortly said). The result is a noisy and minimal, meditative electronic wall of sound, which probably asks more from a potential listener than the earlier "rock"-material.
6th January 2024. Probably the oldest Finnish noise label, Freak Animal Records, released the debut CD of Yksi. Ultrasensory Exploration is nearly 74 minutes long, has 4 tracks, which were recorded in May-August 2022 and January-March 2023, and finally mixed and mastered for this album in November 2023. Edition of 200 copies, 6 panel gatefold sleeves with full colour printing - which actually looks very good! The label's description of the album on their website: "...doesn't offer lame copycat
material, but does have echoes of masters of psychedelic noise
soundscapes such as CCCC or Nord. Masterful craftmanship of multiple
layers of swirling harshness makes it clear how Yksi is certainly among
